I'm Shanna, and I'm radically traditional flutist, a teacher, coach, and the Artistic Director of FluteXpansions.
I help flutists unleash their unlimited potential for artistic expression to create more joy in their lives and highly impactful careers.
I am also obsessed with sound – I’m endlessly fascinated by it. I’ve been captivated by contemporary music since I was 13, but what sealed my fate was hearing George Crumb’s string quartet, Black Angels. I had no idea music could sound like that, and I’ve been exploring sound ever since.
I started this blog to share my thoughts about sound, contemporary music and flute playing, behind-the-scenes of current projects, teaching, and the various aspects of life and career as a musician in the 21st century. These are all reflections on my own experiences or responses to what I see and read and hear around the world.

I am intersted in community and authentic interactions that help us all grow and learn. This is probably a good time to mention that I am also addicted to learning. I just love the adventure and discovery process of learning something new. It's a good part of who I am and why I do what I do.
