COVID-19 Update: Until further notice, all lessons are taking place online using Zoom, google hangouts, or FaceTime.
All you need is internet and computer, phone or tablet with video camera!
For more information on why lessons are virtual right now, please read the COVID-19 Risk Assessment statement from the National Flute Association.
The core of my teaching style comes from Marcel Moyse who emphasized the principles of time, patience, and intelligent work. My main goal is for students to learn something new every lesson and every day of their practice. In my studio, we are focused on the process and journey of learning and approach learning with a spirit of adventure and experimentation. Using these guiding principles, I tailor lessons to each student's goals. Drawing from over twenty years of private teaching experience and my background as a trained Suzuki Flute Teacher and specialist in body use and movement for musicians, I guide each student on the path of discovery, developing skills they can take with them for a lifetime.
In lessons you can expect:
Adventures and experimentation in learning new skills!
Emphasis on fundamentals of flute playing technique and musicianship
Practical and effective practice techniques
Exploration of standard and extended flute repertoire and improvisation
Attention to the whole body in flute playing
Further develop self-motivation, organization and creative thinking skills
Access to exclusive resources through the private student portal
Students are also offered regular studio classes (with guest artists) and two recitals per year
Whether you are just beginning your journey, seeking to enter the professional world, or revisiting the flute for your enjoyment, I look forward to embarking on this journey with you!
I am also available for expert contemporary flute and coachings on repertoire and the extended techniques. These are available both in-person and online.
SCHOLARSHIPS: I believe all students who wish to learn should have access to high-quality instruction. Partial scholarships for lessons are available to highly dedicated students with financial difficulty. Please fill out the scholarship application or contact me if you have any questions. [SCHOLARSHIP FORM]
In-Person: Current Studio locations for private lessons are: Evanston, Vernon Hills High School, Music Institute Of Chicago (Suzuki only). Please fill out the lesson request form to set up a trial lesson or contact me with any questions you may have.
Online/Skype: Online lessons offer great flexibility in scheduling and a great possibility to reach beyond teachers in your local area. There is less driving time involved and fewer distractions to the environment. Online lessons happen via Skype, FaceTime, Google Hangouts, or Zoom. Because nothing can substitute for in-person experience with a teacher, it is my policy to see my weekly online students at least 1-2 times per year (when possible). Please fill out the lesson request form to set up a trial lesson or contact me with any questions you may have.
