7 November, 4pm Practice Strategies w/Elizabeth Erenberg
Practice Strategies for more fun and faster learning! Everyone should bring one or two passages of their music that are challenging. They can be fast or slow. You'll learn how little time it takes to achieve good results with some special timed exercises. There'll be games and sight-reading tips too!

Elizabeth Erenberg uses the flute to help people be more calm, confident, and free. Her work has reached classrooms, concert halls, and events large and small, all over the world. Elizabeth is a committed teacher to her private studio and the all-online Elizabeth Erenberg Flute Academy. As a performer, she’s been hailed as “virtuosic” by The Boston Globe, “remarkable” by the Boston Musical Intelligencer, and heard on the airwaves of KUSC Los Angeles, WCRB Boston, and more. Her skill for contemporary music can be heard on her self-produced album, ASCEND. Behind the scenes, Elizabeth has been a music advocate, marketer, and administrator for organizations like Radius Ensemble, Tufts University, NPR’s From the Top, and more. Elizabeth holds degrees from the New England Conservatory of Music and the University of Oregon. She currently freelances and teaches in Central Pennsylvania.

4 December, 4pm Game Night!
Shanna will lead a fun game night! :)
8 January, 4pm Electronics for Flute & Shannon Lewis
Electronics and your flute! We'll spend the evening with Shannon Lewis and learn how to use Ableton to make fun electronic music creations with (or without) your flute!

Instructions for how to prep in advance will be providided the week in advance.

Originally an artist with a paintbrush, Shannon Lewis made her most important decision at a young age when she decided to instead pursue an instrument she could not make even the slightest whisper. This decision put Shannon’s life onto a new path, and transformed her into a dedicated musical artist. Shannon is currently based in London, Ontario and freelances in Southern Ontario.  An advocate for contemporary music, Shannon is always exploring ways to push the boundaries of the flute, and is committed to bringing new and exciting repertoire to her audiences while on a quest to make music accessible. Shannon has a special interest in the integration of music, visuals, and electronics, which led her to her multimedia project, colour. Starting off as an idea for a small art gallery installation, colour grew into an ongoing project of compositions and improvisations integrated with visual art to create multimedia works for flute and electronics based on her exploration and experiences with grapheme-colour synaesthesia.

12 February, 4pm Hilary Abigana & Movement as a Flutist!
Hilary Abigana will lead us through a super fun and playful workshop about moving with the flute and feeling comfy in our bodies when we do it.

Hilary Abigana is a founding member and flutist for the hybrid arts ensemble, The Fourth Wall. Praised by The Wall Street Journal for their “deft choreography,” The Fourth Wall explores a new hybrid of the performing arts in which musicians are also dancers and actors. Stretching the boundaries of instrumental performance, The Fourth Wall commissions new interdisciplinary works and reinterprets established repertoire to make music that leaps off the stage. In 2017, they made their Off-Broadway debut at the SoHo Playhouse after completing a three-month long tour along the fringe festival circuit in North America with their multi-award winning neo-vaudeville variety show, Fruit Flies Like a Banana. In addition to performing hybrid arts shows, The Fourth Wall travels all over the continent conducting workshops in the basics of this genre, and encouraging participants to utilize music, dance and theater techniques in their performances.
